The Traverse City Police Department is warning residents about a recent phone scam that could cost you thousands of dollars.
According to the police department, a Traverse City woman received a phone call from someone identifying themselves as a Federal Case Manager with the Social Security Office. The caller had the victim's social security number and was checking the account information.
The caller said that if the woman did not transfer $1,000, her Social Security payments would be stopped.
