Traverse City Schools approve million dollar bus purchase
The Traverse City Area Public Schools have approved the purchase of 11 new school buses with a price tag of $978,956.
The school district typically adds 10 new buses every year, but the district says they received a better price on new ones this year, and that allowed them to add an eleventh. TCAPS director of transportation Christine Thomas-Hill says that updating the fleet usually results in better gas mileage, and ultimately a savings.
The new buses each hold 71-passengers and will most likely replace the district's older buses, including 14 buses that are at least 11 years old.
