Traverse City teen recognized for safe teen driving efforts
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A Traverse City teen is being recognized for her work to keep our roads safe.
Madison Hertel is a senior at Traverse City West Senior High School.
Hertel helped make two safe driving videos, one for texting and driving and the other for drinking and driving, that are meant for other teens to watch.
Hertel's efforts earned her the Governor's Traffic Safety Advisory Commission's Student Award.
"It's a good way to get messages out there when it is coming from teenagers because sometimes there's kind of a loss of translation between adults and teenagers so having that opportunity is really great," said Hertel.
Hertel will be receiving her award in East Lansing on Wednesday.
