Some citizens in Cheboygan County are asking voters in Tuscarora Township to recall their entire township board in the November 4 general election.

The recall election was approved by Cheboygan County Clerk Mary Tryban after she verified the more than 344 required signatures on the petition were from registered voters in the township.

According to the petition citizens recalled the current township board â??for persisting in the pursuit of a sewer project after the bid price came in twice $1million plus over the $4.2 million original estimate price.â??

Township Supervisor Mike Ridley said the price of the project did go up in order to get a vertical sewer system, but the extra costs of the project were covered by grants.

â??The amount of the loan to do this project didnâ??t change and we needed to act,â?? said Ridley. â??We knew going into this was going to be controversial. There was going to be a lot of acrimony in the community. Some ruffled feathers; some lost friendships. But, we knew in the end this was going to be the right thing to do. If we lost our positions over it then we knew the mission was accomplished.â??

All five members of the current Tuscarora Township Board will have opponents November election.
