TVC working to with Uber, Lyft to provide rides at airport
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Since their launch in Grand Traverse County last year, ride sharing companies Uber and Lyft have not been allowed to provide rides at Cherry Capital Airport.
But, that may soon change.
To offer rides to and from the airport, transportation companies need a special permit, which neither Uber or Lyft have.
Airport Director Kevin Klein said having Uber and Lyft is an important option for travelers but there also needs to be a level playing field.
"Our ordinance is very open and inclusive to those operations, to promote those operations to succeed," said Klein. "We want to do that not only for Uber and Lyft but for our cab companies, our limo companies that provide these services."
Klein said he has been in contact with both companies, who said they are committed to bringing their services to the airport.
He believes both services will be operating sometime this summer.
