Two arrested on prostitution charges in Leelanau County
Two people were arrested on prostitution charges in Leelanau County.
Tanya Paulsen, of Hesperia, pleaded not guilty to one count of misdemeanor accosting and soliciting prostitution.
Court documents say Paulsen was arrested by the Traverse Narcotics Team after soliciting men at the Red Lion Motel in Bingham Township.
During the investigation, officers learned Paulsen was driven to the location by Thomas Vandermehl, of Muskegon, who had earlier bonded her out of the Leelanau County Jail.
After being arrested, Paulsen told officers she had gone to the motel for prostitution where she was to spend an hour having sex with two unknown men and receive $300 in return.
Paulsen indicated Vandermehl would set up the appointments for her, drive her to them, stay in the area for protection and then would take a portion of the money she received.
Court documents allege Vandermehl said he knew Paulsen was coming to Leelanau County for prostitution and admitted to driving her to the motel.
Vandermehl was charged with one count of accepting earnings from prostitution and one count of financially benefitting from human trafficking.
Both are scheduled to be in court next on May 9.
