Two wine trails come together to work as one

Two wine trails are now coming together to form a partnership, and work as one.

Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula and the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail are joining forces to better showcase the many wines that northern Michigan has to offer.

Lorri Hathaway, Executive Director for the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail, presented the new organization Thursday afternoon to some Traverse City Chamber Ambassadors.

She says all 35 wineries between both peninsulas are on board for the concept.

The two wine trails will still remain separate but plan to come together when it comes to marketing the area as a whole, and promoting wines to local businesses.

"Old Mission was promoting Old Mission, Leelanau was promoting Leelanau, and then the chamber and Traverse City Tourism is promoting Traverse City wineries," said Hathaway. "So even if we do nothing more but call ourselves the same thing, we'll reach a higher critical mass."

Hathaway says they're still in the process of choosing a name for the new organization. She says that announcement will be coming soon.
