Volunteers prepare for 63rd annual Mancelona Buck Pole
ANTRIM COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- Set up is underway for the 63rd Annual Mancelona Buck Pole.
Volunteers spent the day putting up tents and chairs.
Thousands of people are expected to come by Wednesday and Thursday.
After hunters get a deer, they can bring it to Mancelona, and a volunteer will weigh and measure it before lifting it up on the pole.
Their goal is to get around 40 bucks up there, but they say even if you don't bag a deer, the buck pole is a great time.
“You don't have to bag a deer to come up here to the buck pole,” said volunteer Kayla Moore. “We have community raffle prizes, we have bonfires, warming tents, concession stands, so even if you don't get a deer, we really encourage you to come on up and meet new hunters and just join friendships with each other.”
The buck pole gets started at daybreak Wednesday and closes Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
There are cash prizes for hunters and raffles open to the entire community.
The grand prize is $1 thousand.
