Walmart purse snatcher identified and charged
The suspect in the purse snatching at the Houghton Lake Walmart has been identified and charged in the crime.
According to the Roscommon County Sheriff, after the story was posted, numerous people called the Sheriff's Office and almost unanimously identified the suspect.
Shelia Ann Tumath, 53, admitted to stealing the victim's purse and using the credit card found inside the purse to make purchases at Walmart.
The Sheriff says Tumath apologized for her actions, telling investigators she had "no good explanation" and that she had her own money and did not need to use the victim's card.
Tumath has been charged with larceny in a building, stealing a financial device and illegal use of a financial transaction device. All three charges are four-year felonies and carry a maximum of $5000.
Tumath will also be charged as a habitual offender as she has similar prior criminal activity.
The Sheriff thanked the citizens of Roscommon County for their help in identifying the suspect.
