State Police troopers in Alpena say there is a new phone scam going around.
Troopers said the caller will claim to be from a police department and say you have a warrant for your arrest. To avoid going to jail, the scammer claims, you need to send money.
The State Police is reminding the public that when someone calls asking for money and you don't know them, you should never give them personal information. It is also advised that you do not respond to emails from people you don't know.
Police suggest making sure you know who is calling and asking for a number to call them back. They also ask you report any suspicious calls to the police.
