Weather service warns of flooding on Muskegon River due to ice jam
The National Weather Service says an ice jam on the Muskegon River is threatening some neighborhoods in the Big Rapids area.
The ice jam is causing minor flooding. According to the weather service, the threat for more flooding will continue Friday.
MLive.com reports the problem area is southeast of Big Rapids in the area of 12 Mile Road and 183rd Avenue.
Parts of the Muskegon River have posed a flooding problem in the past. Evacuations were ordered for the area from Roger Heights to Big Rapids in January after river levels were just below the 9-foot flood stage.
