Weekend Wexford shooting lands four in jail
Four people were charged today after attacking a 55-year-old man at his home in Cedar Creek Township on Saturday.
According to the Michigan State Police, the man was assaulted by three of the four people charged while the fourth person stayed in the car.
Robert Smith, 24, was charged with Attempted Murder, Felony Firearm, Robbery Armed, Assault with intent to rob while armed, Home Invasion 1st degree and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery Armed.
Derek White, 24, Kari Ostrander, 19, and Sara Ostrander, 19, were charged with Conspiracy to Commit Home Invasion 1st degree, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery Armed and Accessory after the fact to a Felony.
Police say Smith and both Kari and Sara Ostrander went inside the man's house while White remained in a vehicle outside. When White showed a gun in the home, he and the man began struggling with each other and both Ostrander women joined the fray, police said.
During the struggle, the weapon fired and the man was shot in the leg.
He was able to escape and sought help at a neighbor's house. He was eventually admitted to Munson Medical Center where he is currently recovering.
The State Police say the victim knew the four people who were arrested for the crime saying that "it's a small community." Officials do not believe this was a drug-related crime. They believe the intent was to take money.
The State Police are withholding victim's name per his request.
