Wexford County Civic Center will stay open

Boon Sports Management will run activities with mostly volunteers.

After financial troubles, the Wexford County Civic Center will stay open.

In a six to three vote, Wexford County Commissioners approved a contract with Boon Sports Management Wednesday.

The non-profit will take over operations at The Wex on Thursday.

Activities will be run mostly by volunteers.

Commissioners said the contract could save taxpayers about $50 thousand compared to previous operating costs.

In December, county officials decided the county didn't have enough money to keep running The Wex on its own.

Boon Sports Management stepped in shortly after.
