A White Cloud couple is accused of a crime spree that included purse snatching and using stolen credit cards.
Detectives from the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office arrested Donald Ansley, 46, and Joleen Cross, 37, Wednesday at their home near Hardy Dam. Ansley and Cross were arraigned on six felony larceny charges and are being held on $50,000. bond.
The investigation began after a purse was stolen inside the Big Rapids Meijer store on Black Friday. After the purse was stolen, the credit cards inside the purse were allegedly used. An attempted purse snatching was also reported at the Big Rapids Walmart on Dec. 5.
The couple is also being charged at a later date on felony charges in Newaygo County for a purse snatching at the Fremont Walmart on Nov. 30.
Officials say the theft case is also sparking a possible disability fraud investigation. Surveillance video allegedly shows Cross, who is currently a State of Michigan Disability/Welfare recipient, running from the crime scene. Deputies have turned the video in to the Welfare Fraud Division of DHS for review for possible welfare/disability fraud charges.
The Mecosta County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Fremont Police, Big rapids Department of Public Safety, and DHS Investigators with the Inspector General's Office.
