William Minore to be charged federally, state charges dropped

The county charges against William Minore have been dropped and he will now be charged federally with bank robbery and use of a firearm in furtherance of a bank robbery.

LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The man accused of robbing a northern Michigan bank will now be charged federally.

William Minore, 70, is accused of robbing the Huntington Bank in Empire in September 2016.

In November 2016, Minore was charged with robbery-armed, motor vehicle- unlawful driving away and weapons felony firearm.

Minore's trial was put on hold in March 2017 after the defense filed the case with the Michigan Court of Appeals.

The Court of Appeals dismissed the application on April 5, 2017.

On Wednesday, April 4, Minore was transferred into FBI custody on a federal warrant.

Minore is now being charged with two other bank robberies in Lake Ann.

The State charges against Minore have been dismissed by the Leelanau County Prosecutor's Office without prejudice.

Further court proceedings will occur in Federal Court in Grand Rapids.
