Wind power gives the S.S. Badger a new wave of business
The wind tower business is picking up, which means the
is extending its season to accommodate the cargo.
The Lake Michigan Carferry is scheduling additional trips from Ludington to Manitowoc, WI from Sept. 23 through Oct 12. This is the second year in a row the wind tower business extended the Badger's season.
Many of these commercial loads are 150 feet long and weigh more than 150,000 pounds.
To encourage passenger travel during these additional evening crossings, LMC will be offering a 40-percent discount on passenger and vehicle fares. According to Pat McCarthy, VP of Shore Operations for Lake Michigan Carferry,
"The demand for additional crossings is great news and will offer additional fall travel options for our passengers and added benefit to our staff and port cities. LMC has provided cost effective transportation for over-dimensional commercial business and wind towers for the past several years. The need to offer additional crossing to accommodate commercial business once again demonstrates the important transportation option that the SS Badger provides," said McCarthy.
