Winners for "Project Tourism" announced
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- Hospitality based businesses competed at a live event for prizes and the winners have been announced.
The competition is called Project Tourism where businesses compete for cash prizes to help leverage funding for a special project that will act as a catalyst to help the business grow even more.
Six finalists competed Wednesday night in front of an audience at the Hagerty Center in Traverse City.
3rd Place and $1,000 prize - Bill Palladino of Taste the Local Difference (Grand Traverse Co.)
2nd Place and a $2,000 prize - Jen and Nic Welty of 9 Bean Rows (Leelanau Co.)
1st Place and a $7,000 prize - Connie Freiberg of Raven Brewing & BBQ Cadillac (Wexford Co.)
The winners were judged by Jeremy Hawke from Chemical Bank, Trevor Tkach from Traverse City Tourism, David Lorenz from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Mike Busley from Grand Traverse Pie Company and Chris Maclnnes from Crystal Mountain. Audience members were also able to vote.
"The Michigan Tourism Strategic Plan's Project Development Committee focused efforts on one of its four primary objectives, to increase access to capital for travel-related businesses -- creating Project Tourism."
