Woman accused of killing newborn pleaded guilty to manslaughter
Alyce Morales, the woman accused of killing her newborn baby at a campground last July, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Tuesday.
In exchange for pleading guilty, Morales' other charge of open murder was dropped.
Morales cried as she described what happened on July 23, 2013 at the Platte River Campground.
She said that up until that point, her pregnancy had been a secret.
She told the court that she delivered the child by herself, and started to panic. She said she started hitting herself with a closed fist in panic, and accidently hurt the child in the process.
She continues to admit that hitting her daughter caused her to be pronounced dead later at Munson Medical Center.
Morales faces up to 15 years in prison. Her sentencing date has not been set yet.
