Woman arrested in Newaygo County stabbing
A woman has been arrested for the fatal stabbing of a 28-year-old Sand Lake man Monday evening.
The Newaygo County Sheriff's Office reports the prosecutor issued an arrest warrant for a 26-year-old female on a second-degree murder charge in the death of Charles Franklin Rainey.
She was arrested and has been taken to the Newaygo County Jail.
While authorities would not release her name, WOOD-TV reports the woman is Tricia Hill, Rainey's girlfriend.
Deputies arrived at a home on 124th St. in Ensley Township Monday evening where they found Rainey laying in the entryway with a stab wound to the chest.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rainey's family members told WOOD-TV they were appauled by Hill's claim that she stabbed her boyfriend in self-defense. They said they were worried for their brother's life while he stayed with Hill.
"All the time," Cristal Kooiker, Rainey's sister, told WOOD-TV. "Since he's been with her, it's been constant up and down abuse. He told our dad if he wound up dead to go after her."
A private memorial service is scheduled for Monday. Hill is also expected to be formally charged that day.
