Woman crashes into ditch while allegedly drunk driving with child in car
A Bingham Township woman was arrested Saturday evening for allegedly drunk driving with a 2-year-old child in her car.
Deputies from the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday after a passer-by called in a crash on S. West Bay Shore Drive near Fort Rd.
When deputies arrived on the scene, no one was in the car. A woman then walked up to the scene and told deputies that she was the driver and had just taken her 2-year-old child to her home nearby, the Sheriff's Office reports.
Deputies say the woman showed signs that she was intoxicated. They also found an empty wine bottle in the car.
They determined the child was in the car with her at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported.
The driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
She is being held in the Leelanau County Jail on a second offense OWI and child endangerment charges.
Bond has not yet been set and her name has not been released.
