A 36-year-old woman died days after falling out of an electric motorcar near downtown Bay Harbor.
Petoskey Public Safety officials said Evelyn Ricci, 36, fell out of a Global Electric Motorcar on Cliffs Drive and Bay Harbor Drive near downtown Bay Harbor.
Ricci's husband was driving the vehicle. There were no other vehicles involved. A preliminary investigation shows that Ricci was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
She was taken to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital for treatment and was admitted on Friday.
On Sunday, Ricci died as a result of the injuries.
"GEM car operators should be reminded that GEM cars are held to the same rules and laws as other motor vehicles," said John Calabrese, Director of Public Safety for Petoskey. "Michigan law mandates that GEM car drivers and passengers wear seat belts."
The incident is currently under investigation by the Petoskey Department of Public Safety.
