Woman pleas not guilty to killing her newborn
Alyce Morales, the woman accused of killing her newborn baby in Benzie County last July, is facing new charges.
Morales was re-arraigned on a manslaughter charge Tuesday morning in Benzie County Court. Morales' attorney entered a not guilty plea on her behalf.
According to the prosecutor, Sara Swanson, manslaughter has a maximum of up to 15 years behind bars.
Morales is still facing an open murder charge, which she also plead not guilty to.
Morales was arrested after she gave birth at a campground last July. According to investigators, Morales says she was hiding her pregnancy from her parents and gave birth alone in a tent while she was vacationing.
The Medical Examiner and doctor who performed the autopsy testified saying the child died from blunt force trauma to the head and abdomen.
A pre-trial is expected within the next two to three weeks and 7&4 will continue to follow this case.
