Woman to spend at least 16 months behind bars in 4-year-old's death
A Kasson Township woman will spend at least 16 months behind bars for the death of a 4-year-old boy on a Leelanau County road last summer.
Gertrude Shorter was sentenced Monday to 16 months to five years behind bars for failing to stop at an accident causing serious injury or death.
Police say Shorter was driving on Lakeshore Drive in Centerville Township when she hit Gavin Punter, 4, with her van and drove away.
Punter was riding a toy tractor tricycle with his grandmother by his side when Shorter hit him.
