WWII Veterans take flight to D.C. for 2015 Mid-Michigan Honor Flight

Volunteers lined the halls at Cherry Capital Airport Tuesday morning before the Veterans took-off for Washington, D.C.

Dozens of northern Michigan veterans were getting ready for the trip of a lifetime Tuesday morning.

Many Veterans woke up at Lake Ann Camp and headed to Traverse City to take off on the 2015 Mid-Michigan Honor Flight.

Veterans who don't live in the area were invited to stay at Lake Ann to help make the morning commute a little easier.

Tuesday morning 7&4's Alyssa Hearin was live from Lake Ann Camp and Cherry Capital Airport to see how Veterans were preparing for the day.

WWII Veterans Francis Burder and Kandus Schalter shared what they are most excited for, and Mid-Michigan Honor Flight Board Members Patricia Donegan and Robert Green talked about what the trip will look like for the Veterans.

The Mid-Michigan Honor Flight is asking community members to come out to the Cherry Capital Airport to welcome home the Veterans at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13th.

On Tuesday's flight was 7&4's Evening Anchor, Marc Schollett, and Chief Photographer, Kyle Wilson, who will be tagging along and capturing the entire trip for you to see on 7&4 news.
