Young girl hospitalized, step-father arrested in car crash
A 6-year-old Remus girl was hospitalized after a car crash where her step-father was arrested for drunk driving and child endangerment.
The crash occurred on Wednesday evening just after 5 p.m. when the pick-up truck driven by Ryan Thomas Byberg ran off of W. Drew Road just east of W. County Line Road, deputies said. The truck left the road, went through a ditch and ended up striking some trees.
Byberg, 27, of Weidman, had minor injuries and refused treatment. According to the Isabella County Sheriff's department, his step-daughter, Aubrey Ana Wilson was airlifted to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids where she was treated for possible head injuries.
Both Byberg and Wilson were wearing seat belts, but deputies said the young girl was not properly restrained in a booster seat.
Byberg was arrested for operating while intoxicated and child endangerment.
His bond was set at $10,000. He recently bonded out of the Isabella County Jail.
