Couple gets memorable anniversary gift when stranger picks up the tab
A couple in Washington got a very memorable anniversary present while dining out when a stranger picked up their tab.
KATU-TV in Portland, Oregon reports Therese and Corky Dieringer were celebrating at the Beaches Restaurant in Vancouver. It was a special night not only because of the anniversary, but because 87-year-old Corky doesn't get out much due to dementia and Parkinson's disease.
The couple has been together for 29 years and Therese says Corky proposed to her on the second date. She said no, and he continued to propose for four years until she said yes.
At the end of the meal at one of their favorite restaurants (they love being around "the young people"), the Dieringers were brought to tears to find out someone at the restaurant had paid their bill.
"God bless them. The kindness and warmth," Therese told KATU-TV. "This is one anniversary we will never forget because it involved a person or people we do not know. Kindness which is so needed in this world."
