Maumee, Ohio neighbors of accused Charlottesville killer James Alex Fields, Jr. say they were shocked to see what happened Saturday.

But, they also say they've had negative experiences with the man police say drove into a crowd, killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer and injuring more than a dozen others.

"I saw his picture on the news, but I have only seen him with glasses on," said Elizabeth Heafey, who lives in the same apartment complex as Fields. "I was like 'It looks just like him, but this dude wears glasses.' Oh my God, I am in complete shock right now."

Heafey and Nate Gribben say they have seen the Dodge Challenger that Fields is accused of driving into the crowd around the apartment complex parking lot. They had also interacted with the suspect.

"I just mistook him for someone else and he was just very standoffish I guess," Heafey said. "He just didn't want to be bothered."

Other neighbors said they recognized the car from the lot and that law enforcement has talked to them Sunday morning.

There was no answer at the address associated with Fields.
