A powerful patriotic line of American flags was waiting inside Cherry Capitol Airport Thursday night - ready to wecome home one of our nation's heroes.
Lance Corporal Dustin Ankerson - a Marine who grew up in Kingsley - has served two tours of duty overseas and has recently been stationed in Hawaii.
After a couple of days of traveling, Dustin, his wife, Sarah, and son, Logan, returned to Northern Michigan tonight - with many members of his family, the Patriot Guard, and community members anxiously awaiting his arrival.
"No words really to express it. He spent two tours in Afghanistan. He put his life on the line," stated Kelby Ankerson, Dustin's brother. "Everyone should be proud of him, and I'm just as proud as anyone could possibly be."
The Ankersons plan to stay in Northern Michigan for about six weeks until Dustin begins school and helicoptor pilot training in Arizona.
The Patriot Guard would like to remind community members that if they would ever like to participate, they do not need to be a member and are always encouraged to hold a flag and welcome a hero home.
