      Arrest made in Tart Trail assault case

      Update: The Sheriff tells 7&4 News the suspect turned himself in to deputies Monday when he found out he had an arrest warrant. He will be charged with attempted unlawful imprisonment and assault charges Tuesday.


      T hose who use the Tart Trail in Traverse City can feel a little safer.

      The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office tells 7&4 News that they now have identified the man who attacked a woman on the trail and tried to drag her into the woods.

      Sheriff Tom Bensley confirmed late Monday afternoon that a suspect has been arrested and is now is police custody.

      Last Sunday, a woman walking her dog on the Boardman Lake Trail says a man approached her from behind, placed her in a bear hug, and tried to force her into a wooded area. She fought back and got away unharmed.

      The Michigan State Police worked with the victim on a sketch of the subject. Sheriff's investigators spent several days put ting together a line-up and following up on several tips.

      Monday morning a warrant was issued for the suspect's arrest. He is now being questioned by detectives and we should know his name Tuesday.
