Cheboygan Schools has made the final decision to close an elementary school and shift grades in order to make up for a budget deficit.
The Cheboygan School District Administrators voted to close West Elementary School in an attempt to save $650,000 on its budget.
School administrators sight declining enrollment and a corresponding drop in state funding for the budget crisis.
The closure of the school means that grades will be shifted to other buildings in service. Kindergarten through second grade would be at East Elementary and third and fourth grade students would move to the Middle School with the fifth through seventh grade students.
Eighth through twelfth grade students will be at the High School.
