Cherry Festival to be event-packed week
The National Cherry Festival is only 53 days away! More musical acts and events were announced today during a preview at the Hagerty Center in Traverse City. The festival kicks off on Saturday, June 29th with two airshows over West Grand Traverse Bay and for the first time ever, one of them is at night.
Tickets go on sale today at 5 PM for the Bay Side Music Stage concerts including Styx, Montomergy Gentry, Foreigner, Jana Kramer & Aaron Tippin, Simon & Garfunkel Tribute Band- Old Friends, and 1964 The Tribute.
A new smartphone app will also be available for Droid today and Apple platforms mid-month. The app will help festival goers navigate all the events.
National Cherry Festival Queen Meg Howard was also on hand to announce the winners of the art competition.
More than 100 pieces of art were submitted and reviewed. This yearâ??s winners include:
Children (1st -5th grades) Fine Art: Lucy Leggett, 3rd Grade TC Christian
Youth (6th-8th grade) Fine Art: Amanda Costales, 7th Grade TC West Middle School
Student (9th -12th grade) Fine Art: Mandy Collins, 12th Grade TBA Career Tech Center
Student (9th-12th) Graphic Art: Tristen Gleason, 11th Grade TBA Career Tech Center
Adult Fine Art: Michelle Hart Jahraus, Maple City
