A Cherry Festival favorite will return to Traverse City. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will headline the 88th National Cherry Festival in Traverse City.
The National Cherry Festival will kick off its 88th annual celebration with a highly anticipated, patriotic 4th of July weekend return visit by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. The Festival Air Show will take to the sky on Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6 over West Grand Traverse Bay.
Traverse City, along with the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station, will prepare for a Friday 'practice show' featuring all Air Show performers on July 4, with official U.S. Navy Blue Angels performances during the Festival Air Show Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6. The Festival Air Show is expected to get underway at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Federal budget concerns forced the Blue Angels to cancel more than two dozen shows this year. The U.S. Navy announced in April the Blue Angels would be grounded from performances for the remainder of 2013. The announcement came just a week after the U.S. Air Force announced its air team, The Thunderbirds, would not be performing in 2013.
