Community meals bring in Christmas spirit

Hundreds of people spent their holiday focusing on the needs of others, while pushing their own aside.
Phil Murray and his team of nearly 80 volunteers have been hosting a community dinner for fours years now.
It's an event that Phil says keeps the true holiday spirit of giving alive.
"It's a lot of fun and it's Phil's on Front staff, and friends Christmas present to the community," said Phil.
Turkey's and roast beef were donated by various individuals. The Grand Traverse Pie Company also donated all of the pies for the fourth year in a row.
Sandra Svec hosted her 23rd Christmas community dinner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City.
Nearly 300 volunteers showed up to help serve ham, and swiss steak dinner complete with all of the fixings.
Volunteers worked hard Tuesday morning to load and deliver 1,045 meals to community members in Grand Traverse.
About 400 more were served to those that were able to make it out for the dinner.
It's a sense of community spirit that many are thankful for this Christmas.
