      Community party kicks off new season at the drive-in

      The Cherry Bowl Drive-In theater in Honor is celebrating a new digital projector.


      A northern Michigan landmark is driving home the importance of community Thursday.


      The

      Cherry Bowl Drive-In

      theater in Honor is celebrating a new digital projector. The drive-in owners had to update its projector system last year, or face possible closure.


      The digital projector was purchased after winning

      Honda's Project Drive-In

      campaign, which is helping small movie theaters across the country upgrade to digital systems.


      The Cherry Bowl Drive-In will open for the season with a special throw-back showing of "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" Thursday night.


      The special event is presented by the

      Benzie County Chamber of Commerce

      Gates open at 6 p.m. with face-painting, games and music. The movie starts at dusk.


      Tickets for the movie and all activities are $10 in advance or $13 at the gate. Children under 6 are free. Ticket price includes: Movie, small pop, small popcorn, games and activities.


      Cherry Bowl Drive-In will show a double feature starting Friday with "The Amazing Spider Man" and "The Monuments Men"
