Community steps up to stock pantry shelves

Northern Michigan residents are helping the less fortunate this holiday season.

A recent food drive through Honor Bank in Benzie County included cash and food donations totaling more than $2,000. The donations will help stock the shelves at the Benzie Area Christian Neighbors (BACN) food pantry during the busy two weeks of November.

"Hosting a fall food drive is an Honor Bank tradition at all our branches," said Nancy Coulter, Benzonia branch manager. " It was easy this year for us to pick a charity for our proceeds, our theme "Honor Thy Neighbor" was a perfect fit with BACN's mission of Neighbors serving Neighbors to create a caring community. The bank matched all cash and food donations to double the impact of each gift. We are very honored to have such a high level of staff and customer participation. Reaching out to families from Benzie and Northern Manistee is a great way to start the holidays."

"Honor Bank honors us with this gift, thank you," said David Abeel, Director of Development. "This is a great example of a local business using their creativity and compassion to reach out through the volunteers and program of a partner charity. Their gifts reflect a 30 year tradition of community support for BACN. We just finished a promotion in October with Watson Motors in Benzonia and the "Dine out with BACN" schedule will involve 20 great local eateries from September through June this year. We love being part of these win-win relationships."
