Crowds gather as CherryT Ball brightly brings in 2014
Downtown Traverse City welcomed the new year last night with lots of music, lights and a cherry twist. Thousands of people packed the streets for the annual CherryT Ball Drop.
At the top of the hour, the large illuminated cherry dropped from the downtown skyline, marking the beginning of 2014. The ball drops from about 115 ft in the air to just above the stage backdrop. Thousands were out enjoying the live music and special fireworks despite the cold temperatures. The annual ball drop event raises money and helps support local food pantries.
