T he City of Petoskey got a first look at possible designs for development of the property formerly known as Petoskey Pointe on Thursday night.
On Thursday night, The Cottage Company out of Harbor Springs laid out their ideas to Petoskey's planning commission. The company proposed that the facility temporarily be called Petoskey Center. It would include a parking structure, lodging and retail space.
Over the summer , this large vacant pit received a facelift. There are new fences lining the property, retention walls are now supported, and grass has been planted to grow for next season.
" Certainly some great aesthetic improv e ments have been made to the property and that's a great thing is to create a lot of good energy into town , but now the next up is to make this a value economically for our community ," Carlin Smith, Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce President said.
Most business owners are excited that something is finally being done.
" You know this is better than what we had and within reason almost any kind of development would be better than what we have ," Ed Karmann, County Emmet Celtic Shop Owner said.
B ut before the Cottage Company buys the property and signs on for the project they want public approval and a partnership with the city.
" This is really going to take a team effort I think to get something to happen here ," Smith said.
