Emergency notification system testing planned
Starting Monday and going through Friday, people in Grand Traverse County may be getting a call as officials test the CodeRED system.
The emergency notification system is used to send critical communications, from evacuation notices to missing child alerts.
The Grand Traverse County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security says the purpose of the test is to validate a portion of the telephone numbers in their system. It will also remove non-active and inaccurate numbers from the database.
If you do get a call, it will show up as 800-791-3749 on your Caller ID and you'll hear a recorded message.
Officials say the test will increase the efficiency and speed that notifications are delivered during an actual emergency.
There is no need for action whether or not you get a call.
Residents and businesses are being encouraged to update their contact information on the Grand Traverse County website by clicking on the CodeRED logo.
