Family mourning loss of nine-year-old drowning victim
J.J. Lawson, a 9-year-old boy from Flint, drowned at the Little Wolf Lake Campground in Lewiston on Friday, August 1.
Lawson's family was camping and J.J. was playing in the water with his sister and other children. No lifeguard was on duty but there was adult supervision at the beach.
"There was a bunch of kids in the water," Montmorency County Sheriff Don Edwards said. "They were playing and at some point the nine-year-old boy was found motionless face down in the water."
A bystander conducted CPR before an off-duty paramedic staying on the campground took over.
The boy was transported to Otsego Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:19 p.m. Friday.
JJ's family is cherishing all the great memories they have of him.
His cousin, William Lawson, remembers "wrestling, swimming, fishing...just a bunch of good times" with J.J.
The Lawson family is accepting donations to help with funeral costs. You can donate to "JJ's Memorial Fund" here.
