Ferris State University student stabbed near campus

Deputies are searching for the suspect after a Ferris State University student was stabbed at off-campus apartments Sunday.

A Ferris State University student was treated and released from Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital Sunday after being stabbed at the Oakwood Apartments near campus; deputies are still searching for the suspect.

According to a Ferris State University press release, the incident took place between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Sunday, February 23rd at the off-campus apartments. The Oakwood Apartments are located on the 19000 block of 14 Mile Road, southeast of the Big Rapids campus.

According to the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the incident, the victim and suspect were involved in a fight at the apartments when the victim was stabbed. The suspect is described as a 6-foot, 170-pound white male with medium-length brown hair and a short, scruffy brown beard. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, unknown color pants, and a white hat with a different color brim. Deputies caution that the suspect may still be armed with a pocket knife.
