First ever Mighty Uke Fest benefitting diabetes charity tonight

Tony Coleman and Shaun Anchak of Saldaje perform on their ukuleles.

Tonight the first ever Mighty Uke Fest will be held at the State Theatre in Traverse City. The event includes a showing of the documentary "The Mighty Uke" as well as a sing-a-long with local musician, Miriam Pico. Admission is free but all donations go toward the Ryan Dobry Diabetes Charity.

The charity has been helping local diabetes clinics and programs surrounding diabetes in the northern Michigan area for over a decade. It also offers a good deal of education and support. A ukulele package from Marshall Music will also be raffled off and a commemorative ukulele from the film's director, Tony Coleman.

Everyone is encouraged to bring a ukulele to join in and play or sing.

The Mighty Uke Fest is Monday, May 12 at 7 PM at the State Theater in Traverse City.

Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
