      Food drive to benefit seniors in need

      Comfort Keepers will host a "Stop Senior Hunger" food drive Saturday in Traverse City.

      The holidays are a time for giving and northern Michigan seniors are in need.

      Comfort Keepers will host a "Stop Senior Hunger" food drive Saturday in Traverse City.

      Organizers are hoping to gather non-perishable food items, all of which will be delivered to Grand Traverse County seniors.

      The food drive will take place from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging Headquarters at 529 West Front Street.

      "A lot of seniors are really tight budgets," said Leslie Knopp, Co-owner of Comfort Keepers. "Limited fixed income and as food prices continue to increase, their resources don't necessarily keep up, so we've got a lot of people in our region that need some help."

      Comfort Keepers is offering incentives for donations, as well. Every person who donates food Saturday can enter into a drawing to win a $200 certificate to shop in downtown Traverse City.
