Foundress of Carmelite Monastery in Traverse City passes away
Mother Theresa Margaret, the Foundress of the Carmelite Monastery in Traverse City, passed away over the weekend at the age of 101.
She was a nun for 83 years.
In 1949, she was chosen to begin the Carmelite Monastery in Traverse City in a remodeled house on Peninsula Drive. The monastery was founded by Mother Theresa Margaret in 1950.
Ten years later the community moved into a permanent monastery built on Silver Lake Road from plans that were drawn by Mother Theresa Margaret.
Visitations were held Thursday, May 30 and will also be held Friday, May 31 from 8 a.m. until her funeral at 11 a.m.
