If you caught the Grammy Awards Sunday night you may have recognized a certain northern Michigan man on stage performing as well as accepting two of the night's biggest awards.

Fun. band member and Frankfort native Andrew Dost proved that dreams really can come true after his band took home best new artist and song of the year Sunday evening.

7&4 News had a chance to sit down with his proud parents on Monday, who shared their son's incredible journey to the Grammy stage.

Mark Dost, father to Grammy Award Winner Andrew Dost, says he is still in disbelief over this sons accomplishments. He says, ??I was like did that just happen? There??s a moment of shock then all of a sudden you realize all the hard work it kind of floods into your mind and you say these guys really do deserve it!"

It was a jaw-dropping moment for Mark and Cheryl Dost the proud parents of Fun. band member and Frankfort native 29-year-old Andrew Dost.

Cheryl Dost says, ??It was just magically, just pure magic!"

It was pure magic on music's biggest stage and a moment that Mark and Cheryl say their son was working toward his entire life.

Cheryl explains, "He was about eight years old when he started with piano lessons, he took piano for five years and then in 5th grade he started playing trumpet in the school band, and in 7th grade he started guitar, and then started in a band in high school." Mark adds, "We never down played it. We never thought this is a kid in a garage band, we always thought this is more, he was really serious about it."

At Frankfort High School Andrew excelled in the band program and graduated valedictorian of his class. He went on to attend Central Michigan University where he gradated with a journalism degree. But he always kept music in his life, while in college he was part of a successful band that cut a few C.D??s, did some touring, and collaborated with other up and coming musicians. It was through this networking that he met Nate Ruess, the lead singer of a band called "The Format."

Mark explains, "So Nate realized this kid can play and has some talent. So when the format broke up he called Andrew and said let??s start a band, lets make some music... and the rest is history!"

Fun. was formed back in 2008 and five years later they are now Grammy Award winners.

Mark and Cheryl Dost gathered with friends and family Sunday night at the Garden Theatre in Frankfort for a Grammy-watching party. They also used the night to raise money for the Frankfort High School band program.
