Fundraiser helps local mom fight bone and liver cancer
Community members were able to enjoy some fun in the sun on Sunday for a good cause.
The Park Shore Resort in Grand Traverse County hosted a special fundraiser for Traverse City Mom, Laura Sherman, who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 terminal bone and liver cancer.
For a small fee folks were invited out for a party on the side deck of the resort that included live music, a food buffet with some tasty grilled favorites, drinks, and fun activities on the beach. Organizers say it's a great cause and that any amount they raise will help Laura and her two children.
"I think a lot of families have been touched by cancer and we're just trying to do our part at the Park Shore Resort to ease the family's worry and ease the family's financial burden that this can be," said Jeff Stanley with the Park Shore Resort.
Laura was also at the party, overwhelmed with joy from the large amount of community support.
"I just wanted to take an opportunity and thank everyone from work that's helped," said Sherman. "All of the businesses that have donated time and resources and things for us to auction and my kids. It's just been a really an amazing couple of months with everyone that's helped."
The party lasts until 8 p.m.. If you are unable to attend and would still like to make a donation, you can contact the Park Shore Resort by clicking here.
