The wheels are in motion to help make your hunt for a good book even easier.
The Traverse Area District Library is teaming up with Norte! Youth Cycling to bring the first pedal-powered library to Traverse City.
The two-wheeled library will make its street debut Wednesday as the community celebrates the 20th anniversary of TART Trails Smart Commute Week.
The pedal-powered library will be a part of the Norte! TC Rides event which loops through downtown Traverse City. The ride will end at The Little Fleet and open up for library business.
The mobile library is stocked with bestsellers and a rotating collection of books tailored to the bike's location. The Commuting Library will also have a mobile WIFI hotspot which librarians will use with an iPad to show visitors how to access TADL digital books, answer reference and research questions, and even check out books and register library cards for new patrons.
A tentative schedule and Summer 2014 route for the Commuting Library will be posted soon. Locations and events will include local beaches, parks, Friday Night Live, Farmer's Market, and the Open Space.
The Commuting Library will be on display at The Little Fleet at 7 p.m. Wednesday after the community ride around town and will be available and open to offer library services.
