Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians receives grant for fire safety
The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians is getting some federal help with its fire safety message.
The band's fire department in Peshawbestown will receive $71,257 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is part of the Department of Homeland Security.
Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin announced the grant award Thursday.
Fire departments across the country compete for federal grant money in different categories - this award is part of the Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Program, which is a part of FEMA.
Therefore, this grant will help the fire department in Peshawbestown with its public safety and fire prevention activities. Some examples include fire prevention educational programs, smoke alarm installations, home safety inspections, building code awareness programs, and support for fire and arson investigations.
