Grand Valley students toss their caps in Traverse City
About 75 Grand Valley State University students will receive their diplomas Thursday evening during the 16th annual Traverse City commencement ceremony.
The commencement will take place at the Grand Traverse Resort at 6 p.m., where the students will hear an address from State Senator Howard Walker, who is also a northern Michigan native. Sen. Walker has served in northern Michigan as a state representative and senator and will be addressing the undergraduate and graduate students.
Grand Valley serves around 250 students across northern Michigan and offers classes in Traverse City, Cadillac, Boyne City, and Sault Ste.Marie. These students will be participating in the commencement.
Grand Valley became part of the Northwestern Michigan College University Center in 1996. It is the only institution at the University Center that holds a formal commencement ceremony in Traverse City.
