Growing popularity for unique winter sport in northern Michigan

Don Piche from the Traverse City Curling Club explains the growing sport.

They aren't the type for your hair, but more and more curlers can be spotted around northern Michigan lately, After getting a bit more attention lately due to events like the 2014 Winter Olympics, curling is gaining some more popularity with Michiganders.

Don Piche recently formed the Traverse City Curling Club, and though he is new to the sport himself, he says hundreds of people have shown interest just in the early stages.

Piche brought a "rock" and all the essentials needed for curling and gave a short demonstration Friday morning. If your interest has been sparked and you'd like to try curling out as well, the TC Curling Club is having a Curling Open House on Saturday, April 26 from 9 AM to 6 PM at Centre Ice Area in Traverse City. Curlers from around the state will meet so everyone can learn and try the hottest sport on the ice.

7&4's own Sports Director Harrison Beeby will even be participating in some friendly competition that day. See the full interview for a glimpse at curling.
