The National Cherry Festival was packed full of heroes' today as organizers recognized those who serve our country with the third annual Heroes' Day.
Members of the Armed Forces, Homeland Security Personnel and first responders were honored with medals, pins and free ice cream. The medals were handed out by members of the Grand Traverse Area Veterans Coalition, who say they are very honored to show their appreciation.
"It is very satisfying to be able to say thank you to all of these people because it wasn't done enough before," said John Lefler, a member of the Grand Traverse Area Veterans Coalition.
The NMC Concert Band and the Cherry Capitol Men's Chorus honored Heroes' Day with a free concert on the Lay's Cherry Blast Stage.
